A Brief Analysis of Scarlett’s Personal Fascination in Gone with the Wind
Abstract: Gone with the Wind is set in the background of the Deep South during the American Civil War. It is a story of Scarlett, a woman of great strength overcoming all odds to reconstruct her home and family, only to lose her true love in the end. The novel successfully creates a group of female images rich in independent and strong willpower, especially Scarlett O’Hara who has many impressive charms in different situations.
This thesis is divided into three main parts. It aims to analyse Scarlett’s personal fascination in Gone with the wind. It includes the source of Scarlett’s strong willpower—Tara, as well as Scarlett O’Hara’s strong willpower in the Novel, and an analysis of Scarlett’s personal fascination from the perspective of the two heroes. The emphasis is on how her strong willpower is reflected in Scarlett O’Hara. This thesis tries to explore how American women cultivated their strong willpower, independence, feminist consciousness and personal struggle in that social circomstance.
