汉英拒绝策略对比研究每一个跨文化交际者追求的理想目标就是在交际中准确传达信息，让听者完全领会。拒绝是日常生活中常见的一种言语行为，是一种“本质上威胁请求者面子的行为”。所以人们在实施这一行为，要用一些礼貌策略来减缓对对方面子的威胁和避免交际过程一些不必要误会的产生。
本论文主要依据Leech提出的礼貌原则和顾曰国在其基础上提的具有中国特色的礼貌原则。从跨文化交际的角度对“拒绝言语”礼貌策略在汉语和英语中的使用情况进行研究。本文采用语篇补全测试问卷的数据收集方法和Beebe（1990）提出的拒绝策略分类法，以刘治明的硕士论文“拒绝策略中的中美文化价值观研究”的问卷调查及调查结果为样本，调查对象为09届-10届35名英语专业学生, 分析年轻人特别是对刚进入工作的英语学习者使用拒绝策略的特点。
结果表明，中美学生在拒绝他人时所采用的拒绝策略有相似处也有不同处。拒绝策略选择的差异的影响因素包括集体主义和个人主义，社会权力和社会距离因此了解中西文化中礼貌策略的差异及这些差异存在的文化背景将会有助于恰当地使用拒绝策略，能为其在未来的工作中提供一些建议和帮助。

A Comparative Study on Refusal Strategies in Chinese and English
Abstract: In the process of communication how to exactly transfer the speaker’s real intention and let the hearer understand it completely is the primary purpose for each cross-cultural communicator.
The study based on the theoretical framework of Leech’s politeness principles and Gu Yueguo’s politeness principles. The main purpose of the study is to find the similarities and differences of refusal strategies between Chinese and English. Language data are collected by means of questionnaire, using the Discourse Completion Test adapted from the classification of refusal strategies proposed by Beebe (1990). Based on the questionnaire and the results from the master thesis of Liu Zhiming, “A Thesis Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements” , this paper makes an empirical research on the refusal strategies adopted by 35Chinese, those are all the 09 th-10th graduated students of English major. The purpose of the study is to summarize the characteristics of young people use refusal strategies, especially the characters of fresh workers.
The result shows that there are some similarities and differences of refusal strategies between Chinese students and American students. The factors influence the selection of refusal strategies are collectivism and individualism, social status and social distance. To help the fresh workers have a better knowledge of the cultural value orientations underlying the choice of the strategies when making refusals.
