从《麦琪的礼物》看欧亨利的爱情观

在文学作品中，爱情是永恒的主题。国内外作家们以自身独特的风格与视角在他们的文学作品中讲述了各种各样的爱情故事，同时很多作家在他们的作品中都阐述了自己的婚恋观。《麦琪的礼物》就是一部关于爱情的作品。本文从悲观主义角度切入作品，可以看到欧亨利在《麦琪的礼物》中爱情观，这种爱情观包括两个方面，爱的苦涩与爱的甜蜜。爱情的苦涩包括来自社会背景、环境的影响以及两位主角性格上自卑与虚荣所导致的局限性。爱情的甜蜜则包括爱的牺牲与爱的包容。了解欧亨利的爱情观，同时会帮助读者形成自我的婚恋观。

Abstract

In literary works, love is the eternal theme. Many writers, at home and abroad, present their views on love in their work and tell various kinds of love stories with their unique styles and theories in their works. Apparently, The Gift of the Magi is also a masterpiece of O. Henry related to love. Many scholars did research and wrote essays discussing this short story from various perspectives. This paper would discuss O Henry’s views on love in The Gift of the Magi from the perspective of pessimism.
There are two aspects of views on love in this short story, including the part of bitterness and the part of sweetness. The bitterness of love may come from the influence of the social background and the inferiority and vanity of the two characters. As for the sweetness of love, sacrifice and forgiveness may be important aspects which are also a deep understanding from O Henry’s own life experience. This paper will hopefully help the readers to understand O Henry’s view on love and form their own views on love, and the latter would influence their life to a certain extent.
