本文主要讨论了美剧《生活大爆炸》的字幕翻译，分析了归化翻译策略在该剧字幕翻译上的体现和作用。本文主要分为四个部分：第一部分简要介绍了生活大爆炸的剧情及人物，并介绍了归化翻译理论的定义及来源。第二部分介绍了字幕翻译的特点，并阐述了为何要使用归化翻译策略进行翻译。第三部分引入了具体的例子对《生活大爆炸》的字幕翻译进行分析。主要从专有名词，网络流行语以及成语，诗句和谚语的归化翻译策略进行分析。最后一部分是结论，总结了全文，并指出了论文的不足和局限性，以及未来可供研究的方向。

On Domesticating Strategies in the Subtitle Translation of The Big Bang Theory

Abstract: Subtitle translation is a unique form of literature translation and an indispensable part of it. As the widespread use of the Internet, people nowadays can easily get access to many foreign movies and TV plays online. Therefore, subtitle translation has become more and more important so as to help audiences of different cultural backgrounds to enjoy the plays fully. There are mainly two basic translating strategies in subtitle translation which are Domestication and Foreignization. And domesticating strategies play an important role in the subtitle translation of many foreign TV plays because there are many local phrases and expressions that can not be translated directly for the audience to understand. And the success of the popular American sitcom The Big Bang Theory in China showed the function and significance of effective subtitle translation.
  This essay is mainly focused on the subtitle translation of The Big Bang Theory and it analyzes the use of the domesticating strategies in its subtitle translation. It is divided into four parts. The first part provides a brief introduction of The Big Bang Theory and also the definition and origin of domestication theory in translation. It provides a panoramic view of the thesis and introduces some basic definitions and background information of the study. The second part presents the characteristics of subtitle translation and illustrates the reason for domesticating strategies in subtitle translation. The third part is about the specific examples of three aspects related to domesticating strategies and they are domesticating strategies in translating proper nouns, the frequent use of Internet Buzzwords in domesticating strategies and domesticating strategies in using Chinese proverbs, poems and idioms for translation. By the detailed analysis of the use of domesticating strategies in the subtitle translation of The Big Bang Theory, we reached a better understsanding of the essence of translation. The last part draws a conclusion and it tells the findings and limitations of this essay and offers suggestions for further studies in this area.
