女性命运的抉择--《荆棘鸟》与《呼啸山庄》之比较研究

考琳•麦卡洛的《荆棘鸟》和艾米莉•勃朗特的《呼啸山庄》是两部不同时代，不同地域的但同时反映爱情故事的作品,《荆棘鸟》是澳大利亚著名作家考琳•麦卡洛的长篇代表作之一，它是一部家世小说，以充满浓郁澳大利亚风情的德罗海达牧场为背景，讲述了一个关于爱和命运的动人故事---女主人公梅吉与神父拉尔夫的爱情纠葛。《呼啸山庄》的作者是英国十九世纪著名诗人和小说家艾米莉•勃朗特。讲述的是希思克利夫和凯瑟琳之间的爱情与复仇的故事。然而不同的作品，不同的作者，在表达某一种情感的时候却会有惊人的相似之处。《荆棘鸟》和《呼啸山庄》便是存在很多相似的地方的两部小说：都描述了家族几代人的生活经历和情感历程；都讲述了一个感人至深的爱情故事，而且这个爱情故事以悲剧为结局；都是女性作家，体现出鲜明的女性意识---追求女性个性自由和人格独立的女性意识。
   《荆棘鸟》中梅吉和拉尔夫矛盾而又感人的爱情让我们为之动情。《呼啸山庄》中希思克里夫疯狂而又决绝的爱让我们为之动容。本文通过比较分析两部作品的人物性格特点以及爱情悲剧的原因，更好的把两部作品展现给人们，善良的梅吉，矛盾的拉尔夫，柔弱的凯瑟琳以及疯狂的希思克里夫都给读者以深刻而清晰的印象。在文中通过立体式的比较，使读者较为清晰的了解文章脉络与中心，了解两篇文章所要表达的共同点。这两部文学作品也体现出生命美学:守望与追求是对人的本体意识的保留,对人类欲望的肯定,也是对人的本性的升华。

Abstract

Colleen McCullough’s The Thorn Birds and Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights are two love stories written in different times, in different countries. The Thorn Birds is one of the famous representative works of Australia writer who is Colleen McCullough. It is an epic family saga which happened in the Drogheda which full of Australian customs. It tells us a touching story about love and fate, and its heroine Maggie and hero Ralph’s love is full of entanglement. Wuthering Heights is written by Emily Bronte who is the famous British poet and novelist in nineteenth century. It tells us a story of love and revenge between Heathcliff and Catherine. However, when we want to express a kind of emotion, the different works and different authors will have similarities which make us surprised. The Thorn Birds and Wuthering Heights are the two novels which have a lot of similarities. They both have described the family several generations of people's life and emotion experience; both tell us a touching love story which have tragedy in result. They are both written by a female writer and both reflect the distinctive female consciousness. They also support the women' s rights, to praise the female consciousness that women in the pursuit of individual freedom and personality independence.
    Maggie and Ralph’s love is full of contradictions and touching in The Thorn Birds make us excited. Heathcliff’s crazy and refuse love in Wuthering Heights make us be moved. In this paper, through the characters and the theme of the two works, they can be better to show to the people. Through the comparison of stereo type, the readers can have a more clear understanding of context and center, a better understanding of the oppression of women. Maggie is kind-hearted；Ralph is contradictory；Catherine is effeminate；Heath Cliff is crazy. Each of them can give the reader a deep and clear impression. The two literary works also reflect the aesthetics of life: watching and pursuit is to retain the body consciousness of the people, It is the approval of human desires, it is also the sublimation of human nature.
