探析《围城》中文化负载词的翻译

 Both Ch’ien Chung-shu’s Fortress Besieged and the English version translated by Jeanne Kelly and Nathan K. Mao have gained a great success, especially the English version. The translators make the best use of different translation strategies, for example, adding a lot of annotations to interpret the cultural information. With the development of cross-cultural communication and globalization, the Chinese traditional culture will surely step into the world. Because of this, this thesis attempts to analyze English translation of Fortress Besieged from the cultural perspective and focuses on the culture-loaded words, especially the annotation in some set phrases, words, sayings and so on in the translation of Fortress Besieged in both the original version and English translation, exploring how the translators use annotations of the different words to narrow the gap between the Eastern and Western culture, especially the annotation from the social cultural words, set phrases, and allusions and so on in the translation of Fortress Besieged. Hopefully this thesis can be helpful to English learners studying and appreciting Chinese culture, thus, promoting the understanding of the cultural difference between the Eastern and Western culture.

摘 要：钱钟书的《围城》与英译版的《围城》均受到广泛好评。英译版的成功翻译在于两位译者—珍妮•凯利与茅国权充分运用翻译策略，并使用了大量的注释来诠释原文中出现的文化信息。随着跨文化交流和国际化进程的发展，中国传统文化必将走向世界。本文将从跨文化交际的角度探讨《围城》中汉语文化负载词的英译，即《围城》英译本中的成语、词汇、典故等社会、宗教文化和语言文化等信息，旨在帮助读者学习和了解中国文化，更好地理解中西文化差异。
