从《墓园挽歌》浅析格雷的劳动人民观

Thomas Gray is widely considered as the second most important poet of the eighteenth century after Alexander Pope in England. However, Gray has published limited number of works during his life time. Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard is believed as one of his best works. The poem has pointed out that humankind is mortal no matter he is rich or poor through describing what he saw and thought by a country grave. In the past centuries, many researches have been carried out from different perspectives such as content, memorable lines, power, message and technique and use of language and so on. Accordingly, with a lot of analysis and study from the perspective of Gray’s views on working people, it naturally came to the point that, to a certain extent exerted by his own life experiences, Gray showed a lot of sympathy to the working people who worked hard, lived hard but mistreated cruelly, hoping it will be useful for readers to get a full understanding of the poem.

摘要: 托马斯•格雷被广泛誉为18世纪英国仅次于亚历山大•普伯的伟大诗人。格雷在世时出版的作品相当有限，其中《墓园挽歌》是他的代表作。这首诗通过对乡村墓地引起的所思所感的描述，指出了人类的必然死亡性，不管贫穷还是富有都会以死亡作为终结。在过去的几个世纪里，不少人分别从诗的内容、力量、技巧、语言的运用等方面研究了这部作品。本文在此基础上，从格雷对劳动人民的观点角度出发，经过大量的分析研究发现：受个人经历一定程度的影响，格雷表现出了对辛苦劳动、生活但被错待的劳动人民的深切同情,希望能对全面理解这首诗起到一定的作用。
