英语专业一年级学生听力策略使用调查

在英语学习的四个环节----听、说、读、写中,听力理解一直被看作是最为薄弱的环节,却一直以来被老师和学生所忽略。为进一步了解英语专业学生听力水平以及听力策略使用现状,笔者对我校英语专业新生听力策略运用的实际情况进行了实证调查。本文以O’Malley &Chamot(1990)对听力策略的研究为主要理论依据,采用定量研究的方法,以调查问卷的方式对河北科技大学外国语学院80名英语专业新生的听力策使用情况进行了实证研究。并运用SPSS 17. 0 对所得数据进行分析。
调查结果显示:在听力过程中,我校英语专业大一新生听力策略运用的频率处于“有时使用”和“经常使用”之间,整体上来说,听力策略使用频率一般。在三大类听力策略中,使用频率最高的是认知策略,其次是元认知策略和情感/社会策略。具体而言,在元认知策略中,使用频率最高的是“指向性注意策略”,在认知策略中,使用频率最高的是“推理策略”,在情感/社会策略中,使用频率最高的是“减少焦虑策略”。在根据调查结果,本文提出了改进普通高等院校英语专业新生听力学习及听力教学中进行策略训练的建议。

Abstract

Among the four basic parts in the English learning process---listening, speaking, reading and writing, the listening comprehension has always been regarded as the weakest point. However, it has been neglected by both the students and teachers for a long time. In order to further explore the present situation of the listening comprehension ability and the listening comprehension strategies use among English majors. This present study conducted a specific survey on the actual employing situation of listening comprehension strategies used by the 80 subject students who come from the School of Foreign Languages of Hebei University of Science and Technology on the basis of the listening strategy theory by O’Malley &Chamot(1990). The thesis study is analyzed with the methodology of quantity analysis with a questionnaire. In addition, the author analyzed the data by SPSS17.0.
The study results showed that the employing frequency of listening strategies of the tested subjects is between “sometimes” and “often”. On the whole, the employing frequency remains at a common level. Among the three main listening strategies, the most frequently used strategy is “cognitive” strategies, which are followed by “metacognitive” strategies and “affective/social” strategies. Specifically speaking, among the metacognitive strategies, the most frequently used strategy is “directed attention”; as for the cognitive strategies, “inference” ranks the No.1 used strategy; while among the social/effective strategies, the most frequently used strategy is “reducing anxiety”. According to the study result, this present study gave some suggestions on the learning and training of listening comprehension of first-year English majors among the general colleges.
