中美电影中拒绝言语行为的跨文化比较研究
本文对中美电影中人际之间的拒绝言语行为进行比较分析，试图寻找在不同文化背景下礼貌地拒绝他人的有效途径，并且从跨文化交际的角度对中国人和美国人在实施拒绝言语行为时的策略选择进行了研究，旨在发现他们之间的异同以及策略选择背后的文化价值取向的差异。本研究挑选出社会生活体裁的中美电影共十八部，从中搜集有关拒绝言语行为的数据共160项。其中，中国电影中的拒绝言语行为80项，美国电影中的拒绝言语行为80项。研究问题如下:
(1) 中美在实施拒绝言语行为时有哪些差异和共性?
(2) 影响中美在实施拒绝言语行为时选择拒绝策略的因素有哪些?
(3) 影响中美实施拒绝言语行为的文化价值取向分别是什么?
本论文对拒绝言语行为的研究为中英学习者提供了可行的拒绝策略，从而可以使学习者在实施该礼貌言语行为时更为得体，更符合相应国家的礼貌规范，对促进有效的跨文化交际有一定的指导作用和现实意义。

A Cross-cultural Study on the Speech Act of Refusals in Chinese and American Movies
Abstract: The thesis focus on a comparative analysis of the interpersonal speech act of refusal in Chinese and American movies, aiming to discuss the effective ways of politely refusing others from different cultural backgrounds. Moreover, the refusal strategies utilized by Chinese and American people are also noted from the intercultural perspective, aiming to find out the similarities and differences of the strategies and the underlying cultural values between them. Eighteen social life movies are selected, including ten Chinese movies and eight American movies respectively, from which totally 160 items of refusals (including 80 items of Chinese refusals and 80 items of American refusals) are collected. The research questions are addressed as follows:
1. What are the similarities and differences of refusal strategies that Chinese and Americans utilize?
2. What are the factors that affect the choices of the refusal strategies by Chinese and Americans?
3. What are the fundamental cultural patterns that account for similarities and differences of refusal strategies used by Chinese and Americans?
The significance of the study is that it will, to a certain extent, not only enable English or Chinese learners to have a better understanding of appropriate refusal speech acts performed by Chinese and American people, but also help them to have a better knowledge of cultural patterns underlying the choices of strategies of making refusals.
