《动物农场》是英国作家乔治•奥威尔的一部杰作。它之所以能闻名于世界是因它对寓言体娴熟的运用以及它呈现给世人的一个无法否认的真相：如果不能消除极权主义，平等和自由将无法实现。这一点也成为了很多批评家所谈论的重点。乔治•奥威尔的反极权主义通过庄园农场上的动物们得到了具体形象地体现。其讽刺意味对于读者来说非常明显。
由J. 希利斯•米勒所提出的重复理论致力于发现小说作品当中的重复现象并进而阐释它们。在米勒的著作《小说与重复：七部英国小说》中，他根据重复现象的规模大小将其分为三种类型：言语成分的重复、场景和事件的重复以及一部小说的主题、事件和人物在另一部小说中的重复。此外，他还总结出两种形式的重复：以相似性和同一性为基础的柏拉图式的重复；以差异性为基础的尼采式的重复。
《动物农场》这部小说中有很多重复，例如重复的短语和句子，重复的场景和事件以及重复的具有象征意义的意象。这些重复现象体现出了重要意义，尤其是涉及到小说主题方面的意义。该论文尝试着对《动物农场》中的重复现象进行具体的分析，并且解读这些重复现象如何在表现主题上发挥作用。
论文由四部分构成。第一章节简要介绍小说《动物庄园》、它的作者乔治•奥威尔以及重复理论。并且简要回顾一些学者对这部小说的研究。第二章节将具体分析小说中的重复现象。第三章节将就这些重复现象进行两种重复形式的分类并解读。第四章节则是对此论文的一个总结。

An Analysis on the Repetition Phenomena in Animal Farm
—The Perspective of Repetition Theory
Abstract: Animal Farm is a marvelous novel written by George Orwell. What makes it famous around the world is its skillful usage of allegorical style to tell the world an undeniable truth: equality and freedom is impossible to realize if totalitarianism is not removed. This also becomes what many critics discuss about. George Orwell’s idea of anti-totalitarianism is embodied on the animals on Manor Farm. The ironical implication is obvious to readers.
Repetition theory which is proposed by J. Hillis Miller aims at discovering the repetition phenomena in novels and more importantly, trying to interpret them. In his book Fiction and Repetition: Seven English Novels, he divides the repetition phenomena into three types of repetitions according to the scale: the repetition of verbal elements, the repetition of events or scenes and the repetition of motifs, themes, characters and events in another novel. Besides, he also sums up two forms of repetition: Platonic repetition which is based on similarity and identity; Nietzschean mode of repetition which is a kind of discrepancy.
Many repetitions such as repetitive phrases, sentences, repetitive scenes and events, and repetitive symbolic image in Animal Farm are discovered and these repetitions embrace significant meanings, especially the meaning concerning the theme of this novel. This thesis is an attempt to give a specific analysis on the repetition phenomena in Animal Farm and how they take effect in presenting the theme of this novel.
This thesis is made up of four parts. The first chapter gives a brief introduction of Animal Farm, its author George Orwell and the repetition theory. And a literature review is also introduced which states some scholar’s concerns in this novel. In the second chapter, a specific analysis on the repetition phenomena is given and then the two forms of repetition in this novel is analyzed in chapter three. Chapter four is a general conclusion of this thesis.
