论《了不起的盖茨比》中尼克的成长司各特•菲茨杰拉德是20世纪美国最杰出的作家之一。他的著作《了不起的盖茨比》为读者讲述了美国梦的破碎和幻灭，同时，也叙述了小说的讲述者尼克循序渐进的成长过程。本文从成长小说的角度解读《了不起的盖茨比》，在成长小说的基本要素、框架和进程下，通过分析尼克从西部家乡前往东部纽约生活、被环境与经历磨砺得更加成熟、最终回归西部的成长进程，试图探寻尼克在这一过程产生的自我认知的深化和道德观、价值观逐渐成熟的过程，并对尼克自己的美国梦、成长旅途中的成长导师、他自身具备的支撑其成长的因素以及他的进步变化进行分析和总结。

On the Growth of Nick Carraway in The Great Gatsby
Abstract: F. Scott. Fitzgerald was one of the greatest American writers in the 20th century. His masterpiece, The Great Gatsby, portrays the disillusionment of the American Dream, and at the same time, presents the growing process of the narrator, Nick Carraway. This dissertation interprets The Great Gatsby from the perspective of an initiation novel by relating to the key elements and basic framework of initiation novels. It tries to explore the deepening of Nick’s introspection and the maturity of his moral values by analyzing Nick’s growing process which includes the journey from his hometown in the Middle West to the East, New York, then chastened by the environment and experiences and returns to the West. It also covers the analysis and summary of Nick’s American Dream, the mentors in his growth, the qualities that support his maturity and the progress he makes in the journey.
