对英语专业一年级学生学习风格的几点建议


 Traditionally, it is assumed that if L2 teachers do their jobs well, students will learn and retain the language. However, this is not always the case. Individual differences have caused different achievements and attracted more and more academic attention. With this realization, the analysis of learning style begins. Therefore, the major concern of this thesis is on the relationship between learning styles and language achievement.
    The research centers on the learning styles of the first year English Majors (2007). It aims to find out (1) whether learners differ in learning styles and which learning style is most related to various achievements in the final exam; (2) whether great differences exist between male and female learners when learning styles are concerned.
    The thesis consists of three parts: an introduction, the body and a conclusion.
    Part One is an introduction of the complete paper. It introduces the relationship between learning styles and language achievement.It aims to find out whether learners differ in learning styles and which learning style is most related to various achievements in the final exam; whether great differences exist between male and female learners when learning styles are concerned.
    Part Two is the body. It contains three chapters.
    Chapter One is literature review. It presents some definitions and the dimension of learning style, the corresponding researches both home and abroad, and the background of learning style study and its significance.
    Chapter Two concerns itself with data analysis and discussion which falls into three steps: at the outset, descriptive analyses are made to understand the general distributive tendency of learning styles and final exam achievements of the first-year English majors; then an analysis is conducted to find how learning styles contribute to final exam achievements; finally, an analysis is designed to find out whether male and female learners have great differences in learning style.
    Chapter Three introduces some major findings and implications of the study.
    The thesis ends with Part Three which contains the conclusion of the investigation as well as the suggestions for further research in this regard.
