The winner of 2007 Nobel laureate in literature, Doris Lessing who is one of the most important contemporary British writer, is also known as the following, after Woolf's greatest female writer, and several nominations for the Nobel Prize for literature, as well as a number of world-class literary awards, and its unique and varied, deep thought, opinion sharp, innovative insights, a very challenging.
The Golden Notebook (1962) by Doris Lessing, which laid Doris Lessing’s literary status in the West, which has also been recognized as its representative. The story, entitled “Freedom of women,” for the heroine Anna. Seem to be mutually coherent story, but Lessing divided it into five parts, Anan and his girlfriend Molly, things about Anna’s life and career, each folder between the two series of the so-called “Notes” and its contents taken from Anna’s four notebooks, and an independent “Golden Notebook” section. One of the black notebook records the life of a young Anna in Africa, especially the main living at a local small group of left-wing activity, and therefore she has experienced the illusion, passion and disappointment. Her first novel, “prohibited love” is a product of this life. The red notebook is recorded with political events and activities one way or another. The yellow notebook is a bouquet in this draft, which describes a man named the fictional love drawing characters and writing career, love entanglement. The blue is modeled on Anna’s diary, including the Communist Party of the United Kingdom for her work in the case of a publishing house, she who is a British was suffering before and after state of mind as well as for many years to get along with her boyfriend Michael to leave the loneliness caused by a loss. The whole book was a deliberate arrangement of kaleidoscope-style chaos. We can read it in a re-arrange way.
This thesis is composed by three parts: introduction, main body, and conclusion.
The first part is introduction. In this part, the thesis will introduce something about this novel.
The second part is main body. It will be divided into four chapters. In the first chapter, the thesis will give a brief introduction of Doris Lessing and his The Golden Notebook. In the second chapter, it will describe the spirit of Anna showed in Free Women. And in the third chapter, the thesis will analyze the inner world of Anna showed in the four notebooks. In the last chapter, the rebirth of Anna’s inner world will be showed, which a new spirit world is.
The last part is conclusion. In this part, it will make a conclusion for this thesis. From Anna’s life experiences, the author wants to show readers a new attitude when facing the difficulties. And the change of Anna’s inner world makes Anna a rebirth of her life.
Mrs. Lessing uses four notebooks and the last golden Notebook to show readers a new spirit world. That is the author of a philosophy of life summed up. In this seemingly chaotic structure, the authors demonstrated that chaos and confusion of a time changing the soul of weightlessness exploration and survival.
