寻找理想家园——解读斯特里克兰的《月亮与六便士》精神世界

The pursuit of spiritual homeland is the eternal theme of Maugham’s works. In his work the Moon and Sixpence, Maugham expresses his spiritual will through the hero, Strickland. Maugham analyzes Strickland’s inner thinking and spiritual world from the perspective of the first person. Strickland, a stockbroker, left his family and his job in England to pursue his artistic dream, he finally found the ultimate significance of art in Tahiti. By studying Maugham’s original works and supplementing other people’s research on this novel, we find that Strickland’s thoughts and image are complex, and the weakness and glory of human nature are reflected in him at the same time. From his spirit, we can not only feel his yearning and passion for freedom and dreams, but also see his moral defects. Through the analysis of Strickland’s attitude towards self-subject and his pursuit of spiritual ideal, this paper aims to explore Strickland’s complex spiritual world. It will help readers better understand Maugham’s spiritual connotation and make them aware of the importance of dreams in life and the way to deal with the relationship between material and spiritual correctly.

摘  要
对精神理想的追求是毛姆作品永恒的主题。在其作品《月亮与六便士》中，毛姆就借男主人公表达了自己的精神意志。毛姆从第一人称的角度来剖析主人公内心思维和精神世界，思特里克兰德，一位股票经纪人，有一天突然为追求艺术而抛弃家庭，与现代文明诀别，最终在塔希提岛找寻到艺术的终极意义。通过研究阅读毛姆的原著作品，和他人的研究成果，发现思特里兰德的精神思想及形象具有复杂性，人性的弱点与光辉同时在他身上体现出来。从他的精神上我们既能够感受到对自由与梦想的向往与激情，也能看到他在道德观念上的瑕疵。本文通过分析思特里兰德对自我主体的态度以及精神理想的追求,旨在探索思特里兰德复杂的精神世界。这项研究将会使读者更好地理解毛姆的精神内涵，让读者意识到梦想在人生中的重要性及如何正确处理物质和精神的关系。
