Abstract

     This paper intends to give a brief analysis of the main characters in Emma，for example, Emma's vivacity and arrogance; Knightly's seriousness, calm and maturity; and Harriet's love and desire. These characters present history to us and reveal a world which mirrors our own life. Emma fully reflects Jane Austen's ability to shape the characters and her skills of literary exploration．
     To support the thesis, the paper is divided into four parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to both the author and the novel. The second part focuses on analyzing the main characters in this novel, which reflect people of all the forms in the real life. The third part focuses on analyzing the reasons for the formation of their characters, including social factors and personality factors. The last part is the conclusion, restating the thesis of the paper.
