分析《印度之行》中的象征主义运用

Edward Morgan Forster is a great novelist in the 20th century, and many of his works are still popular in modern society. A Passage to India is a representative one. Forster uses many unique writing techniques in this novel, and symbolism is such a shining point that attracts scholars from home and abroad come to study it. Thus it is helpful to understand symbolism as a school of literature by studying the representative symbolism used in A Passage to India. In this paper, it firstly introduces the background and plot of the novel and symbolism as a kind of writing technique. Then it discusses some typical symbols of the title, characters, settings, natural landscapes. Finally, the paper talks about themes of the novel and the function of symbolism in presenting themes.

摘要

爱德华·摩根·福斯特是20世纪英国著名小说家， 他的许多作品一直风靡至今。《印度之行》就是他极具代表性的作品。小说《印度之行》中运用了许多独特的写作手法，而象征主义的出色运用就是其中的一大亮点，引起了许多国内外学者的大量研究。因此，研究代表性小说《印度之行》中的象征主义有助于加深对象征主义这一文学流派的理解。本文首先介绍了小说《印度之行》的写作背景，故事情节。进而浅析象征主义的写作手法，探究小说的标题象征，人物象征，背景象征，自然景观象征。最后分析作品的主题并分析象征主义对表达主题的巨大作用。
