中美大学简介的对比语步分析

本文从武书连2014年中国大学排行榜和2014年US News 美国大学综合排名中分别选取前30份中美大学的英文简介作为研究对象， 以Swales (1990) 对体裁的定义及Bhatia（1993）的语步分析为研究理论，采用定量分析与定性分析相结合的方法把样本进行具体语步的分析，总结出其语篇结构，之后对两个样本的语步结构从语步频率、语步顺序和语步内容三方面进行对比分析，比较其异同并分析原因。
研究结果表明，首先，大学简介作为一种体裁，具有完整的语步结构，并且中美大学简介因其相同的交际目的而在语步结构上具有相似性，都包含介绍背景、展示实力和列举成就等；其次，中美大学简介因其文化差异而在语步频率、语步顺序和语步内容等方面存在不同。
最后，本文提出了一些写作方面的具体建议。希望该研究结果能对如何有效专业地撰写中国大学网站上的英文介绍具有实用价值。

A Contrastive Move Analysis of Chinese and American University Prospectus
  
                              Abstract

This thesis collects 30 samples respectively from Wu Shulian’s 2014 ranking list of Chinese universities and US news 2014 ranking list of American universities (which focuses on CUMT). And the analysis is carried out according to the framework of Swales’ (1990) definition of genre and Bhatia’s (1993) move analysis. The analysis firstly identifies the move structure of Chinese university prospectuses and American university prospectuses by qualitative analysis. Then the similarities and differences between Chinese and American university prospectuses are summarized from three aspects (frequency, sequence and content of move) with examples by quantitative analysis.
The results indicate that university prospectus has a pattern of generic structure and the genre structures of the two sets of data are similar by sharing the same communicative purposes. Both of them include establishing background, illustrating capability, presenting achievements and so on. Secondly, the differences exist in frequency, sequence and content of moves, which are caused by the different culture backgrounds between China and America.
Finally, some suggestions of writing university prospectus in English versions are proposed. The author hopes that the findings of this study can serve as a practical guidance to the Chinese universities in the writing the English introductions.
