关于西安体育学院英语专业学生英语学习动机及其影响的研究


  In the present-day society, with the advanced development of general linguistics, psycholinguistics and cognitive linguistics, the focus on second language learning has shifted from teaching to learning. A more great deal of consideration has been put on language learners, of which motivation has been recognized as one of the most influential affective variables that contributes to individual learning differences. As to this thesis, it aims to explore the English-majors motivation intensity and the differences between learners of different purposes in Xi'an Physical Education University in order to find out useful ways to improve English learning. The subjects are 60 English majors in Xi'an Physical Education University, covering freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior students. A purposefully designed questionnaire is distributed to them, assuring its reliability beforehand. The correlative data analysis is adopted to analyze the relationship between the learners’ motivation and their performance. On the basis of statistics analysis, three conclusions are educed: Firstly, the intrinsic motivation accounts for the higher proportion among English majors at first, but it is easy to change because of different external factors. Secondly, the intense degrees of motivation are not always in direct proportion to learning outcomes, due to other factors such as learning strategy influencing students’ achievement. Thirdly, motivation factors, for example interest and effort, exert a great influence on students’ performance. In accordance with the study, the thesis proposes some suggestions for enhancing English language learners’ motivation, such as encouraging cooperative learning, establishing favorable teacher-students relationship and promoting the active atmosphere of study, etc.
