A Pragmatic Analysis of You-Attitude in Writing English Business Correspondence
Abstract
Since China entered WTO, she has been more involved in the global economy in various fields. English business letters play an important role as a medium between the different countries in trade. As a way of communication, both sides in the transaction should pay more attention to mutual negotiation friendly. You-attitude is an indispensable principle in writing English business letters. What is You-attitude on earth? A systematic statement will occur in this thesis. The thesis makes an explanation about the background of the You-attitude, analyzes the relationship between You-attitude and relevant pragmatic principles and summarises different types of English business letters by You-attitude principle. It is concluded that You-attitude is a special pragmatic principle and it exerts an important effect on writing English business letters enabling both parties trade and communicate with each other more friendly and reaching an agreement eventually.
