Violation of Cooperative Principle and Generation of Humor
ABSTRACT
This article mainly explores the violation of the maxim of quality, the maxim of quantity, the maxim of relation and the maxim of manner and generation of humor from the perspective of the cooperative principle with some practical cases in our daily communication. The application of the cooperative principle largely depends on the psychology of the interlocutors in communication. People observe the cooperative principle to let their conversations go smoothly in most of the cases, but in special conditions people violate it for bringing a sense of humor. Through learning the violation of cooperative principle and generation of humor, we can not only let ourselves break away from uninteresting conversations indirectly and politely, but also impress others with wit and wisdom in daily communication.
