法律英语模糊性研究摘要模糊性是自然语言的一个重要特征。本文旨在研究法律英语中的模糊性现象，首先探讨了模糊性语言的定义以及几种易混淆的模糊概念，进而分析了模糊性语言产生的几个原因，包括语言本身的特点、语言的语境意义差异以及非语言学领域中缺少明确的边界。法律语言作为自然语言的一种，模糊性也普遍存在于法律文本中。尽管法律语言最鲜明的特点是准确性和严密性，但并不排除模糊语言的使用。模糊性主要有准确传达信息、弥补语言缺陷、保护及礼貌功能。

On the Vagueness in Legal English
ABSTRACT
Vagueness is one of the most important characteristics of natural language. The thesis is aimed at exploring vagueness in legal language. Firstly it focuses on the definition of vague language and analysing several distinctions of some terms.Next it analyses some reasons for the existence of vagueness in legal language,including intrinsic features of language and differences of context and lack of clear-cut boundaries in the non-linguistic world. Legal language, as one of natural language, is omnipresent in legal English though preciseness and accuracy are the distinctive features of legal language. Sometimes we suffer the troubles caused by vagueness.It performs such functions as deliberately withholding information,filling the gap,protecting oneself and politeness.
