浅析《永别了，武器》中的象征性

摘  要
海明威是美国最著名的作家之一。不同于其他同时代的作家，海明威这个名字常常与战争和勇气，爱情和暴力，美丽和死亡紧密的联系在一起。而象征手法是海明威最重要的写作风格。海明威在《永别了，武器》一文中运用的象征的手法是深思熟虑并且有意为之的，本论文着重讨论分析象征主义在《永别了，武器》中的运用。在海明威精心安排下，赋予高山与平原，阴雨等特定的象征含义。高山和平原是两个最为重要的象征形象，高山象征着和平，幸福，家庭和爱情同时平原则是象征着毁灭，死亡，腐烂生活和肮脏的战争。雨在小说中是第三个重要的象征形象，象征着灾难和悲剧。论文认为，通过这些象征对比，海明威有力地表达了“战争毁灭了一切”的主题。

An Analysis of Symbolism in A Farewell to Arms
                 

ABSTRACT
Ernest Hemingway is one of the foremost American writers. Like no other writers of his time, Hemingway’s name is often associated with war and courage, with love and violence, with beauty and death. And symbolism is an important writing style of Hemingway. The use of symbolism in A Farewell to Arms is quite deliberate and intentional. This thesis is dedicated to the discussion of symbolism in Heminway’s A Farewell to Arms. Under the skillful arrangement of the author, the mountain and the plain, the rain and so on all carry on their symbolic meanings. The mountain and the plain are two important images in the story. They form a sharp contrast which stands as basic structure of the whole novel. The mountain is a symbol of peace, happiness, family and love while the plain is a symbol of destruction, death and rotten life and messy war. The rain is the third important image in the novel. The rain in the novel is a symbol of disaster and tragedy. All of these symbols stand in sharp contrast and help to express the theme—war destroys everything.
